The Detachment Kit have this one song off their first album called Dead Angels Make Slow Sound that restored my faith in the ability of Chicago bands to rock out. Being from Chicago, I was witness to all those early- to mid-90's bands that destroyed (Shellac, June of 44, Cap'n Jazz). But then something boring happened (Tortoise perhaps?) and all the rock in Michael Jordan's city went away.

Well, if certain ambient/experimental/surreal bands stole the rock from Chicago, The Detachment Kit just yanked it back. They're just one of those bands that make you scream "YES!" as they tempt you to play along on your new shiny red air guitar.

Not that their sound is limited to old school Chicago music fans. These guys definitely would appeal to the followers of Les Savy Fav, Built to Spill and, hell, even Devo. The Detachment Kit just get it. They rock and they rock hard.
