I'm not ready! There's still so much 2 do!!!

20 Good Shows To See in NYC This Week

April 17 - April 23 / 2017 A.D.

1. The Decemberists play Brooklyn Steel on Monday, April 17th, Tuesday, April 18th, Wednesday, April 19th

This band was meant for the stage.

Now if you'll excuse me 2003 A.D. just called... they'd like me to return home at once.

(P.S. Julien Baker opens all three of these shows and she rules and so does this cover of a song on her fantastic album)

2. Chairlift play Bowery Ballroom on Monday, April 17th (tickets), at Baby's All Right on Wednesday April 19th (tickets) and Brooklyn Steel on Saturday, April 22nd

These are Chairlift's final shows in NYC before they finally reach the top floor in the sky.

A good band. Once. Now. Forever. Amen.

3. PJ Harvey plays Brooklyn Steel on Thursday, April 20th

It's 4/20, duuuuuuuuuuuude.

4. Surfer Blood play Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday, April 20th

Still 4/20, buuuuuuuuuuud

5. The Coathangers play Sunnyvale on Thursday, April 20th (tickets) and Baby's All Right on Friday, April 21st (tickets).

Every day is 4/20, weeeeeeeeeeeed.

6. Philip Glass Ensemble play Town Hall on Thursday, April 20th (tickets)

But have u ever heard Philip Glass on weeeeeeeeeed, man????

7. Small Black play Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge on Friday, April 21st and DJ Tanlines play Brooklyn Boulders (Gowanus) on Saturday, April 22nd

Two shows I'm combining into one. Both at two different Brooklyn Boulders locations. You'll climb the steepest indoor peaks to reach the sweet sounds of Small Black (Friday) and a DJ set by Tanlines (Saturday). See those two bands and you'll have reached the mountaintop. Their music soars to heights only the boldest indoor wall climbers dare ascend.

8. Free Record Store Day show at Rough Trade on Saturday, April 22nd

Today is Record Store Day! To celebrate you not getting the thing you want because only 14 copies were actually made available to real people like u and me have fun at this super solid FREE show at Rough Trade! Lineup includes: Sunflower Bean, Sneaks, Charly Bliss, Today is the Day, Beverly and Steve Earle. Into it!

In honor of Record Store Day, tickets to this free show are probably going for a million dollars on eBay.

9. Sebadoh play The Bell House on Saturday, April 22nd (tickets).

For years, every time Sebadoh came to town I used this blob as an opportunity to mention that "Brand New Love" is one of the best songs ever written.

But I'm a more mature blobber now, so I'll just say this......

Brand New Love = best song ever, man.

10. Explosions in the Sky play The Capitol Theatre on Saturday, April 22nd (tickets).

Those who go to this show shall live forever.

Those who couch it shall never know what it's like to visit Port Chester, NY.

Choose.

Rounding Out The Top Twenty:

11. Kishi Bashi at Music Hall of Williamsburg

12. Unwed Sailor at Mercury Lounge

13. The Gotobeds at Sunnyvale

14. Ra Ra Riot at Music Hall of Williamsburg

15. Wolf Eyes at Brooklyn Night Bazaar

16. Quilt at Union Temple of Brooklyn

17. Girl Band at Saint Vitus

18. Malcolm Mooney (of Can) at Rough Trade

19. PAWS at The Studio at Webster Hall
