20 Good Shows To See in NYC This Week

April 10 - April 16 / 2017 A.D.

1. LCD Soundsystem play Brooklyn Steel on Monday, April 10th and Tuesday, April 11th.

These shows are sold-out, of course.

But you can probably get tickets here if you have:

1.) your edge

2.) disposable income

2. Cold War Kids play a free show at Rough Trade on Monday, April 10th

Well, alright. Now we're talking. Free is more of a price I can get behind.

Cold War Kids play a free* show at Rough Trade at 6:30 PM.

*but you gotta buy their new record which seems like a Fair Trade to me

3. Trans Am play Saint Vitus on Tuesday, April 11th (tickets)

This D.C. instrumental post rock band has been triumphant / transcendent since circa forever.

Go see Trans Am at Saint Vitus on Tuesday night and surrender to the light.

4. Swet Shop Boys play Webster Hall on Wednesday, April 12th (tickets)

The hip-hop duo of Heems (of Das Racist) and Riz MC (Naz in "The Night Of" / surf instructor in "Girls") keep selling out their NYC dates.

It must be the slick flow, yo.

As of this writing, there are still tickets available to see these dudes at Webster on Wednesday. Do it.

5. Lisa Prank plays Silent Barn on Thursday, April 13th

Lisa Prank (aka Seattle's Robin Edwards) makes fuzzy DIY punk pop jams / gems.

Blast her latest album below to get you in the mood to go see this goodness at Silent Barn. It's super catchy.

But -- you know -- in the punk way.

6. New Order play Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, April 13th (tickets)

This is the best New Order album. And it doesn't even have "Bizarre Love Triangle" on it!

(Please voice your vehement disagreements in the comments section this blob has never had.)

7. Francis Lung play Alphaville on Friday, April 14th (tickets).

This is the NYC debut of ex-WU LYF dude (Tom McClung) and his band Francis Lung.

If you go, maybe someday you can impress a stranger or something by saying you did.

Or, they could be like "Who? Why are you talking to me? I'm just trying to enjoy the airplane ride."

One never knows.

8. Terry Malts play Mercury Lounge on Saturday, April 15th (tickets).

It's pretty much unanimous here at Rockness HQ (proud staff of two) that Terry Malts released one of the very best records of 2016 A.D.

You can still listen to it right now.

But one last thing, Business of Dreams (Corey Cunningham of Terry Malts) open this show and BoD rule too.

9. The Wedding Present play The Bell House on Saturday, April 15th (tickets)

If you somehow missed out on this British band's hard jingle jangle pop goodness, that's OK it's never too late to get into something great.

Start with either this album or this album.

LOST YOUR LOOK ON LIFE. TOO MUCH APPLE PIE.

(Colleen Green opens this show / Colleen Green rules)

10. WBAR-B-Q at Barnard College on Saturday, April 15th

Every year I say I'm gonna go up to Barnard for the WBAR-B-Q and this year I just might finally do it.

Sneaks, Fern Mayo and Future Punx are just three of the many solid peeps participating in this goodness.

Outside! Free! Barnard!

I'm gonna go this year. So help me blob.

Rounding Out The Top Twenty:

11. Chaz Bundick (of Toro y Moi) at Bowery Ballroom

12. Jonathan Richman at Bowery Ballroom

13. DJ Hot Chip at Output

14. Charli XCX at (le) poisson rouge

15. Kero Kero Bonito at NYU Kimmel Center

16. Michael Hurley at Union Pool

17. Entrance at Alphaville

18. Pharmakon at Brooklyn Night Bazaar

19. Patio at The Glove

20. Sondre Lerche at Bowery Ballroom

*those were the shows I know I know those were the shows I know.
