((Young People)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

When I first heard Young People being played around the office I was like, "Man, Chan Marshall certainly sounds a tad livelier these days." But of course, it wasn't Chan Marshall at all. It was Katie Eastburn, singer of Young People. I'll be damned if she doesn't sound just like Cat Power though.

Young People live in Brooklyn by way of L.A. Once a trio, the band is now really only a duo, but has three supporting guest musicians helping them out for live performances. The band plays short, somewhat somber songs that I guess can mostly be described as art-pop meets folk. But really, Young People are all over the place. Sometimes the only beat they know is "down" and they play nice nap music. But at other times, they'll provide piercing guitar squalls and pull the punk out. They've released stuff on Dim Mak, 5 Rue Christine, Kill Rock Stars and Narnack, so it seems that no one label can pin these dudes down. I hate to say it, but if you like Cat Power, you'll probably like Young People.
